Background
Due to hybridization divergence times of species may vary by millions of years. This fact seems to support the Out of Africa as "pygmies" and back as global "mongoloids" hypothesis, as well as the possibility that there may be a similar relation to Homo floresiensis (see postings below).
The efforts made to avoid encountering a new humanlike species like Homo floresiensis are now peaking again. But the arguments are the same and completely empty as always. Yes, it can't be a Homo erectus successor because, as I 've written before, a) it's too small and b) there simply doesn't exist a distinct Homo erectus! And no, the humanlike organized brain doesn't connect it to humans but to an advanced ape/human hybridization with a much more wrinkled (and neuronally more complex) brain than Homo erectus/early sapiens (see Out of Africa as "pygmies" and back as global "mongoloids"), which fact explains the advanced tools as well as makes it possible that Homo floresiensis represents the "missing link" feared by religious fundamentalists (incl. ALL Islamists) etc!
So hello "true Muslims"* and other fundamentalists, here's the really sour catch. Maybe we got our super-wrinkled brain from a pygmy chimp who had developed it precisely because it needed more computing power (see EMAH on consciousness and AI) to compensate for its tiny braincase. This is also in line with the fact that humans are most closely related to smaller chimps.
* If you feel the language above is rude then why not compare it to the language of presidents and other major representatives of Islam. By the way, what do you think abt the fact that the most powerful Islamic nation now wants non-Muslims to wear signs indicating their non-Muslim status! MY LANGUAGE IS CERTAINLY A MINOR PROBLEM WHEN DISCUSSING ISLAM. Or do you prefer Islamic (submission) "dialogue"?!
Listen/read more abt to the Flores "hobbit" controversy (19 May, 2006) !
and think abt Islamic crypto-creationists like anthropology professor Teuku Jacob (see postings below).
Neuronal comparison of chimp, pygmy chimp, and humans
Interestingly bipedalism has preceded encephalization in human evolution.
The distribution of spindle cells (brain neurons) in the pygmy chimp (but not in ordinary chimps) resembles that of humans. 37 in chimpanzees, up to 75 in bonobos, and approximately 88 in humans (3.8% in common chimpanzee, 4.8% in bonobo, and 5.6% in humans of pyramidal cells in layer V traverses)! Observe that the volume of spindle cells correlates to encephalization. (source)
Brief summary of Peter Klevius' Out of Africa as "pygmies" and back as global "mongoloids" hypothesis
Although hybridization has been known for long its effect on the blurring of speciation has probably been gravely underestimated. Today it can't be excluded that not only different branches of homo, but also branches of pan and homo, may have interbreeded successfully up to modern humans. It's important to understand that "genetic windows" in the speciation barriers only have to fit certain parts of a population, which then later may transmit (internal hybridization) new genes to those who could not have hybridize in the first place.
What has been considered the chain of human ancestors (habilis, erectus, sapiens) may in fact be only the more or less empty vessel that was later (100.000 to 40.000 years ago) filled with a more complex brain tissue developed in pygmy apes that hybridized with pygmy humans in e.g East-Congo/Zaire's jungles. When this high quality brain tissue expanded in the wider (pygmy) human skull it encouraged them to migrate to places were dwarfism was no longer needed, i.e. to the same places where big (but stupid) homos already existed. The next hybridization then caused a significent body growth while the brain tissue came in handy when entering new areas and lifestyles, e.g. in the protein richt but cold north. Due to geographical pockets and idealized evolutionary patterns, different stages of this development tend to be much more confusing than they need to be.
Solving the stupid brain/big body puzzle (although Homo neanderthalensis possessed the biggest Homo brain ever, he can hardly be accused of having been too bright!)
First, let's forget abt "relative brain size"! Secondly, a Bonobo (pygmy chimp - considered the most intelligent ape on the planet) brain is abt 350 cc whereas Homo ("Hobbit") floresiensis is 450 cc. However, the tools etc discovered in the Hobbit cave were equally sophisticated as those of Homo sapiens (conventionally seen as successor of Homo erectus and predecessor to our own species Homo sapiens sapiens) with a brain size of 1300-1400 cc! Not to mention all hominid (a variety of Australopithecus) predecessors to Homo, who had bigger brains but didn't produce anything worth of mentioning.

Australopithecus afarensis (400-500 cc)

Pygmy chimp/Bonobo (350 cc)
Robert Martin: "There is a fundamental problem of the tiny brain size (of Homo floresiensis) combined with the sophisticated stone tools"
Peter Klevius: "There is a fundamental problem of the big brain size (of early Homos) combined with the unsophisticated stone tools"
Also see Peter Klevius Wittgensteinian analysis of thinking and language on Donald Duck and a Stone in the Holy Land of Language, and compare it to what Bonobo experts (like Sue Savage-Rumbaud) and others have experienced! There's been a lot talking abt "abstract" intelligence but much of it appears to be self-mirroring (see non-abstract symbols).
Is autism a key to hybridization between early Homo and Pan?
Autism has two interesting features: 1) Change in number of chromosomes and 2) Asocial behavior. Hence an autistic female early Homo pygmy, living in intimate contact (in what is today Congo/Zaire's jungles) with early Pan (that was abt the same size and genetically much more closely related to Homo than today) could well have been sexually targeted by horny male predecessors to Bonobos.
Was Indonesian crypto-creationist and Islamic state "anthropologist" Teuku Jacob more than wrong?
ASPM (Abnormal spindle-like microcephaly) is associated both to human individual degeneration of brain size as well as evolutionary growth of brain in apes (Pan) and humans (Homo). Teuku Jacob tried to "explain" Flores "Hobbit" as a sick human (he also stole the bones, damaged them, refused to give them back etc - perhaps ordered by the Islamic state of Indonesia). However, it could well be that Homo Floresiensis represents precisely the opposite! In this scenario true microcephaly in modern humans may be explained as disturbed genetical reflections of how we not only share our brain set up with the most advanced apes, but also that we got our "human intelligence" directly from them, hence avoiding to become just big, stupid Homos without content!
Human and shimp share large DNA duplication/deletion hotspots
- and SIV/HIV!
Homo "Hobbit" floresiensis made tools that didn't change over time and which were unlike those of Homo erectus!
