Was Homo Floresiensis a hybrid?
The very fact that Homo floresiensis had a brain smaller than most chimpanzees, yet capable of producing/using advanced tools, is not only well in line with Klevius hypothesis (see postings below and Out of Africa as "pygmies" and back as global "mongoloids) but also with the fact that such a hybridized "genetic anomaly" on the verge of speciation occurs in the very same manner as does e.g. autosomal dominant Microcephaly (one may even rise the question whether Microcephaly is a remnant of this particular event(s?) in our evolution towards modern HSS brains)!
The Homo floresiensis brain isn't "too small for any explanation besides pathology" (Martin) but on the contrary the only logical outcome/missing link between big-skulled but stupid (in relation to brain volume) pre HSS and really modern HSS (90-50? kyr)! Also consider Klevius hypothesis (EMAH) on consciousness/AI and primitive vs. sophisticated thinking!
However, this will in no way free the deeds of Islamic Indonesia and its Islam supporting crypto-creationist "scientist" Teuku Jacobs, who has relentlessly tried to hinder a purely (i.e. non-Islamic) scientific study and interpretation of the floresiensis remains!
